Birth Name: Azubuike Chibuzo Nelson
Born: October 9th 1986
Genre: Rap/HipHop
To some he’s Chibuzor Nelson Azubuike, but to most, he’s the ‘Man of the year’, Phyno. Starting up as a producer in 2003, a decade of passion and hard work has seen the “Ghost Mode” rapper/producer move from ‘underground hype’ to a household name in Nigeria.
Having produced for the likes of Timaya, Flavour, Ruggedman, 2Shotz, Bracket, J Martins and Mr. Raw, Phyno found his way around the industry and decided to move to Lagos in 2007 so as to increase his impact.
By 2010, the eccentric producer decided to try his hands on the other side of the booth, starting his own Rap career, and Indigenous Igbo Rap has never been so cool ever since. The multiple hits to his credit as a producer and rapper, Phyno is putting final touches on his official debut album “No Guts, No Glory” slated to drop soon.
Phyno grew up in Enugu and also schooled in Enugu and graduated from IMT (Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu) with a degree in Public Administration. This man of the year hails from Anambra state and also he is the 4th child in a family of 5
He was previously associated with Pent House Records; an independent label and just recently signed a record deal with Capital Hills Records.
Phyno is widely known as the ambassador of rap music in the Igbo Language. He told the Nigerian Tribune that he raps in Igbo because he respects his culture and loves being himself. Although he primarily raps in Igbo, he combines a bit of Nigerian Pidgin and English in his music. Phyno believes that the elements of music makes it borderless.
